Murkowski Promotes Alaskans to Key State Positions

Senator Promotes Miles Baker to State Director, Bob Walsh to Deputy

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Lisa Murkowski announced today that she is promoting two staff members to senior positions in her Alaska offices, building on the momentum of their contributions.  Miles Baker, her current legislative assistant for finance and tourism in her Washington, DC office, will be her new Alaska State Director, running day-to-day operations.  Baker will be filling the position opening caused by the retirement of Jim Palmer and work out of her Murkowski’s Anchorage office. Bob Walsh – who has worked for the Senator for nearly a decade – is being appointed as her Deputy State Director after years of work on Alaska constituent needs.

“Miles and Bob have been tireless and effective advocates for Alaska and their job performance has been outstanding,” said Murkowski.  “I am proud to be in a position to appoint them to leadership positions.  Jim Palmer has been a tremendous asset as my Alaska Deputy Chief of Staff and we will miss his work and warmth, but I have all the confidence in the world that Miles Baker and Bob Walsh will continue our strong and steady work for Alaskans.”

Before working for Senator Murkowski, Baker was senior staffer for Senator Bert Stedman in Juneau, where he worked on state finance and appropriations policy for the Senate Finance Committee.  Baker began his professional career as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. He graduated from West Anchorage High School and the U.S. Naval Academy, and received an MBA from UCLA’s Anderson School of Business.

Bob Walsh has worked for Senator Murkowski for roughly the last ten years.  In addition to his valuable constituent work for Senator Murkowski, Walsh served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam and was also legislative assistant for the Late State Representative Richard Foster of Nome.  Walsh was born in Fairbanks and lived for years in Nome.
