Murkowski Comments on Recent Trip to Afghanistan and Pakistan
Sen. Murkowski joined Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and two other senators at a news conference in the U.S. Capitol to discuss their recent trip to Afghanistan and Pakistan. The lawmakers left Wednesday, January 6, 2010, and returned to Washington, Monday, January 11, 2010, traveling some 15,000 miles across 10 time zones. The lawmakers met with top political and military leaders in both countries and traveled to U.S. and allied forward operating bases in Afghanistans Helmand Province, where they met with U.S. Brigadier General Lawrence Nicholson, Commanding General of the 2d Marine Expeditionary Brigade. Besides Murkowski and McConnell, the other lawmakers on the trip were Sens. Mike Crapo of Idaho, Roger Wicker of Mississippi and Congressman Michael Castle of Delaware.
