Murkowski Comments on the U.S. Arctic Interests and Ratification of the Law of the Sea Treaty
Sen. Murkowski today addressed the Oceans Law and Policy Conference on how increased interest in the Arctic for national security, economic and environmental reasons has increased the need for the United States to recognize and protect its interests in the region. Murkowski offered that one way to protect U.S. interests would be for the U.S. Senate to ratify the Law of the Sea Treaty in order to have a seat at the table when making claims to portions of the Arctic.
