Delegation Announces Grants to Alaska Programs

Washington, D.C. - The Alaska Congressional Delegation is pleased to announce the following grants awarded to communities in the State of Alaska:
U.S. Department of Agriculture:
  • $82,500 to the City of Kotzebue for the preliminary cost and analysis associated with the preparation of a preliminary engineering and environmental report for a proposed new water treatment plan.
  • $528,860 to the City of Bethel for preliminary cost and analysis associated with the preparing of application materials, including preliminary engineering and environmental reports. These reports will support proposed projects of a wastewater lagoon, city center manhole upgrades, Bethel Heights piped water upgrades and institutional corridor water distribution project.

U.S. Department of Defense:

  • $6,250,598 to CCI Group, LLC, of Anchorage, for work on airfield improvements, drainage structures, deicing system piping and controls at Bangor Air National Guard Base in Bangor, Maine.
 
U.S. Department of Labor:
  • $628,805 to the Cook Inlet Tribal Council’s YouthBuild project. YouthBuild provides job training and educational opportunities for at-risk youth ages 16-24 while constructing or rehabilitating affordable housing for low income or homeless families in their own neighborhoods. Youth split their time between the construction site and the classroom, where they earn their GED or high school diploma, learn to be community leaders, and prepare for college and other postsecondary training opportunities. YouthBuild includes significant support systems, such as a mentoring, follow-up education, employment, and personal counseling services; and participation in community service and civic engagement. 
Minerals Management Service:
  • $83,080 to the Kenai Peninsula Borough Government for riverbank restoration at the Crooked Creek State Recreation area. Funding is provided through the State’s Coastal Impact Assistance Program (CIAP).
National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration:
  • $154,526 to the University of Alaska Fairbanks to install, operate, maintain and de-install the ScanEagle Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) on the NOAA Ship MacArthur II; this will require testing equipment on board the ship prior to field operations. Install payloads (fixed digital cameras and FLIR) and provide data collected by payloads to NOAA/NMFS/NMML researchers.
Institute of Museum and Library Services:
  • $5,000 in basic grants for existing library operations to Ahtna Incorporated, of Anchorage.
  • $6,000 in basic grants for existing library operations with education/assessment options to the Village of Aniak.
  • $6,000 in basic grants for existing library operations to Anvik village.
  • $48,000 in basic grants for existing library operations with education/assessment options to Arctic Slope Regional Corporation, of Barrow. 
  • $5,000 in basic grants for existing library operations to the Native Village of Napaimute, of Bethel.
  • $6,000 in basic grants for existing library operations to the Native Village of Chuathbaluk.
  • $6,000 in basic grants for existing library operations with education/assessment options to the Native Village of Eyak, of Cordova.
  • $6,000 in basic grants for existing library operations with education/assessment options to the Craig Community Association.
  • $6,000 in basic grants for existing library operations with education/assessment options to the Curyung Tribal Council, of Dillingham.
  • $5,000 in basic grants for existing library operations to the Native Village of Eagle.
  • $6,000 in basic grants for existing library operations with education/assessment options to the Organized Village of Grayling.
  • $6,000 in basic grants for existing library operations with education/assessment options to the Chilkat Indian Village of Haines.
  • $6,000 in basic grants for existing library operations with education/assessment options to the Chilkoot Indian Association of Haines.
  • $6,000 in basic grants for existing library operations with education/assessment options to the Village of Holy Cross.
  • $6,000 in basic grants for existing library operations with education/assessment options to the Village of Igiugig.
  • $6,000 in basic grants for existing library operations with education/assessment options to the Sealaska Corporation of Juneau.
  • $6,000 in basic grants for existing library operations with education/assessment options to the Huna Totem Corporation of Juneau.
  • $6,000 in basic grants for existing library operations with education/assessment options to the Kenaitze Indian Tribe of Kenai.

  • $6,000 in basic grants for existing library operations with education/assessment options to the Village of Takotna.
  • $6,000 in basic grants for existing library operations with education/assessment options to the Native Village of Mary's Igloo of Teller.
  • $6,000 in basic grants for existing library operations with education/assessment options to the Traditional Village of Togiak.
  • $6,000 in basic grants for existing library operations with education/assessment options to the Ounalashka Corporation of Unalaska.
  • $5,000 in basic grants for existing library operations to the Cooperative Association of Wrangell.
  • $6,000 in basic grants for existing library operations with education/assessment options to the Yakutat Tlingit Tribe.

U.S. Department of Transportation:

  • $549,000 to Hoonah for the Hoonah Intermodal Ferry Dock
  • $924,511 to the Alaska Railroad Corporation. Activities to be funded include property acquisition for the South Wasilla Track Realignment Project and engineering and hydrology activities for the Nenana Realignment Project to realign rail track to eliminate highway-rail crossings and improve highway safety and transit times. 
  • $2,141,950 to the Kenai Municipal Airport for apron rehabilitation.
  • $6,800,000 to Angoon for the design and construction of the Alaska Marine Highway System ferry terminal.
  • $10,000,000 to Petersburg for construction of a runway safety area.
  • $10,500,000 to Takotna for construction of a new airport.
  • $16,000,000 to Tuluksak for the construction of a new airport.
