Alaska Delegation Announces Grants to Alaska Programs

Washington, D.C. - The Alaska Congressional Delegation is pleased to announce the following grants awarded to communities in the State of Alaska:

U.S. Department of Agriculture:

• $675,000 to South Denali, Denali State Park to purchase two tracts of land. Funds are provided through the Forest Legacy Program to help protect working forests that are in danger of becoming fragmented or disappearing altogether.
• $1,200,000 from the Rural Development's Water and Environmental Program to the Gulkana Village Council to provide wastewater system improvements. Funding is provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
• $400,000 loan from Rural Development's Community Facility Direct Loan Program to Kenai Performers, Inc., of Kenai, to facilitate local business growth.

U.S. Department of Commerce - National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration:

• $4,279,061 to the North Pacific Fishery Management Council to carry out responsibilities as defined in the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act.
• $174,316 to the University of Alaska Fairbanks for the deployment of eight oceanographic moorings in the Bering Strait.

U.S. Department of Health & Human Services:

• $3,642,205 to Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium for a Health Center project.
• $1,575,067 granted to Interior Community Health Center for a Health Center project.
• $669,710 granted to Tanana Chiefs Conference for a Health Center project.
• $420,123 granted to the Municipality of Skagway for a Health Center project.
• $109,675 granted to Eastern Aleutian Tribes, Inc. for Children's Health Insurance Program outreach and enrollment.
• $192,255 granted to Kodiak Area Native Association for Children's Health Insurance Program outreach and enrollment.
• $124,366 granted to Aleutian / Pribilof Islands ASSN. INC. for Tribal Demonstration Projects for Diabetes Health Services for Alaska Natives and American Indians.
• $615,795 granted to Norton Sound Health Corporation for Tribal Demonstration Projects for Diabetes Health Services for Alaska Natives and American Indians.
• $105,853 granted to Eastern Aleutian Tribes for Tribal Demonstration Projects for Diabetes Health Services for Alaska Natives and American Indians.
• $1,199,299 granted to Maniilaq Association for Health Center Cluster Demonstration Programs.
• $94,667 to Southcentral Foundation for Southcentral Alaska Tribal Children's Health Insurance Program outreach.

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development

• $137,200 to the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank, of Soldotna, to expand their facility.

U.S. Department of Justice:

• $500,000 to the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault to support efforts to coordinate victims services, collaborate with federal, state and local entities, and to provide support to member rape crisis centers, battered women's shelters and victim service programs through funding, training, technical assistance and public awareness. This grant is part of the Department of Justice's Grants to Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Coalitions Program.

• $750,000 to the Bristol Bay Native Association to decrease the incidence of violent crime against Indian women by implementing provisions of the Violence Against Women Act of 2000. This grant is part of the Department of Justice's Grants to Tribal Indian Governments Program.

• $549,190 to the Sitka Tribe of Alaska to enhance victim safety and offender accountability by implementing provisions of the Violence Against Women Act of 2000. This grant is part of the Department of Justice's Grants to Encourage Arrest Policies and Enforcement of Protection Orders Program.
