Murkowski Announces First Round of Funding from the Infrastructure Law’s Bridge Investment Program

Over $2 billion Allotted for Bridge Projects

U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration opened the application process for the competitive Bridge Investment Program (BIP) established through the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which she helped write, negotiate, and shepherd into law. A total of $2.36 billion in BIP 2022 funds are available to help plan, replace, and improve small and large bridges.

“As Alaskans and our visitors travel from point A to point B, they deserve to know they can do so safely,” said Senator Murkowski. “As one of the lead authors of the bipartisan infrastructure law, I worked hard to ensure that the unique infrastructure needs of Alaskans were well-represented. The final product included one of the largest targeted investments in bridges in the history of highway infrastructure. No matter what size community – whether they are seeking funding for planning or improving existing infrastructure – I hope Alaskans will take advantage of this opportunity to apply for much-needed upgrades to our state’s bridges.”

Application deadlines:

Planning Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. EDT on July 25, 2022.

Bridge Project Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. EDT on September 8, 2022.
