Murkowski Bolsters Policy Team With New Staff

Kodiak, Juneau Represented in Latest Office Moves

ANCHORAGE, AK – Senator Lisa Murkowski has hired three new staff members to help her shape upcoming work with an Alaska-centric vision: a Legislative Director and two Legislative Assistants.  “When Congress reconvenes next week, we are going to hit the ground running on issues crucial to our unique state,” said Murkowski.  “These new staffers bring years of expertise to the table and I welcome their contributions on behalf of Alaska.”

Tara L. Shaw is the new Legislative Director for Senator Murkowski.  Shaw has amassed extensive Senate experience in Appropriations, Energy and Natural Resources, Indian Affairs and Armed Services policy during her time under former Senator Pete V. Domenici as well as Homeland Security policy under former Senator George V. Voinovich.  She joins the Murkowski team after serving the Department of Homeland Security as an Attorney-Advisor for Legislation. Ms. Shaw received her bachelor’s and law degrees from Texas Tech University and worked for the Texas state legislature and state supreme court.

Miles Baker joins the Murkowski team as a Legislative Assistant in the field of finance and budgeting after several years in the Alaska State Legislature.  Baker was senior staffer for Senator Bert Stedman (R-Sitka) in Juneau, where he worked on state finance and appropriations policy for the Senate Finance Committee.  Baker began his professional career as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corp serving with two units in Okinawa, Japan.  He graduated from West Anchorage High School and the U.S. Naval Academy, and received an MBA from UCLA’s Anderson School of Business.

United States Coast Guard Lieutenant Warren Wright is Senator Murkowski’s Coast Guard fellow working on issues that involve issues that involve the Department of Homeland Security and air and maritime issues. After assignments in Pensacola, Florida and Corpus Christi, Texas, Wright transferred to CG Air Station Kodiak where he conducted Bering Sea deployments.  Lt. Wright graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and has a Command and Staff diploma from the Naval War College.
