Murkowski on Christen: “It Often Takes a Little Time to Get the Best”

Senator Speaks on Behalf of Legal Colleague, Advocating Judicial Appointment

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Lisa Murkowski today voted to confirm Alaskan Supreme Court Justice Morgan Christen as the first Alaskan woman to serve on the Ninth Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals, in an overwhelming 95-3 vote.  Prior to the vote, Senator Murkowski spoke on the Senate floor in support of Justice Christen.

“Morgan Christen is an experienced, well-rounded attorney,” said Murkowski. “She is an exceptionally well-rounded jurist with experience on the trial and appellate bench. She is an individual with a keen intellect and an impeccable reputation for integrity. She is highly regarded across the ideological spectrum in Alaska as a judge who keeps politics and ideology off the bench.”

Sen. Murkowski closed her speech by telling her fellow Senators “let me simply say that Morgan Christen is more than just a good judge. She is a good person. Justice will be well served by her confirmation to the Ninth Circuit, US Court of Appeals.”

Justice Christen was nominated to the Ninth Circuit, US Court of Appeals, filling a vacancy that arose when Judge Andrew J. Kleinfeld of Fairbanks accepted the role of Senior Judge on the Ninth Circuit.
