Murkowski Recognized As Leader Against Surging Obesity Crisis

Senator Receives Breakfast of Champions Award for Her Continued Health Focus

With a recent study indicating the United States of America is the most obese country in the world and that the nation’s obesity rate has reached an all-time high, Senator Lisa Murkowski continues to support efforts to raise and maintain nutrition standards for school children – and adults – nationwide. This morning, Senator Murkowski received the Campaign to End Obesity’s “Breakfast of Champions” award, recognizing her consistent dedication to championing legislation to help fight our nation’s obesity crisis. Commemorating her efforts, she also received a box of Wheaties with a picture of her on the front.

Senator Murkowski has also been one of the leaders in the Senate to link America’s obesity rate and increasing health care costs.

“America’s obesity epidemic is not only a nutritional and fitness concern, but it has evolved into an economic crisis. As more medical attention is required to address obesity-related health concerns, this has become as much a financial issue to our nation as it is to the health and well-being of Americans. By providing children with healthier options now, we can improve their quality of life as adults and avoid these preventable expenses in the future.”
