Murkowski Votes for Congressional Voice, Oversight in Iran Agreement

Senator Lisa Murkowski today voted for H.R.1191, the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act, and shared her thoughts with Alaskans afterwards:

“A nuclear-armed Iran is a threat to the United States and the world, and whatever final agreement is reached must be Congressionally approved and enforceable – not just at the outset but at regular and continuous inspections several times a year.  It’s very important to me that Congress have a say in whether the sanctions we legislated are to be lifted when an agreement becomes finalized – and not have this be a another unilateral exercise by the Obama Administration.  Today’s vote is a victory for legislative oversight, checks and balances, and a clear statement that Congressional input is mandatory, not merely an option.”

The legislation passed 98-1 and now heads to the House of Representatives for consideration.
