Murkowski Votes to Confirm Senator Jeff Sessions as Attorney General

U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) released the following statement after voting to confirm Senator Jeff Sessions as U.S. Attorney General:

“Although Senator Sessions and I have had policy differences over the years – over VAWA, immigration, voting rights – I know him to be an honorable man, someone of great integrity, one of the hardest workers in the Senate, and a person open to finding common ground. There is room to grow our relationship and his understanding of Alaska as he moves on to his new role at the Justice Department. In the last several weeks I have had the opportunity to speak with Senator Sessions as the Attorney General nominee about some of the public safety challenges in rural Alaska, including our unacceptably high rates of domestic violence and the lack of law enforcement presence in many rural villages.

“I have invited him to visit the state, and it is my hope that he will be able to visit some of Alaska’s most remote areas, to see firsthand the difficulties we face, and what the Justice Department can do to help make our communities safer. At the conclusion of tonight’s vote, I offered my congratulations to our new Attorney General and he confirmed that he’s looking forward to coming to Alaska.”
