Senate Passes Bill Honoring Nation’s Veterans

As the Senate reconvened today, U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) voted in favor of the Gold Star Families Voices Act to better preserve and honor the memories of our nation’s veterans. The bill passed the Senate by a vote of 97-0 and now heads to the President’s desk to be signed into law.

“I cannot think of a better time than now, on the heels of Veterans Day, to pass this law to honor the sacrifices of our veterans and their families by turning memories into history,” said Senator Murkowski. “I have been so honored to share the stories of Alaska’s veterans through my Veteran Spotlight project. It has been so inspiring to listen to stories detailing acts of sacrifice and courage, and I’m pleased this bill will support and enhance that work.”

This bill authorizes the Library of Congress Veterans History Project, which collects and catalogs the stories of America’s war veterans, to include audio and video recordings of biographical histories by Gold Star families – immediate family members of service members who died as a result of their wartime service or became missing in action.
