Senator Murkowski Proud to Announce 2014 Service Academy Nominations

All Applicants Demonstrated Incredible Spirit and Patriotism

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Lisa Murkowski today proudly announced the names of 34 Alaska high school seniors she is nominating for appointment to the U.S. military service academies for the class of 2018.

“Each year, Alaska’s superlative high school seniors apply to be nominated to our nation’s military service academies by demonstrating a keen focus on their country, academics and fitness. I appreciate the time, energy and efforts of everyone who submitted applications; the enthusiasm they show can only breed optimism for our state’s future,” Murkowski said. “These students will make Alaska proud and I look forward to watching them embrace a career of service.”

Nominees are selected based on their academic record, extracurricular activities and leadership capacity. Senator Murkowski’s nominees will now compete against other candidates nationwide for a spot in the entering class. Though a congressional nomination to a service academy is an accomplishment within itself, it does not guarantee admission; service academies will make final decisions.
