May, 2010 Alaska Report - WASP Veteran Ellen Campbell of Juneau
In this edition of The Alaska Report, Sen. Murkowski is joined by Ellen Campbell, of Juneau. Campbell was a member of the Women Airforce Service Pilots, or WASP, during World War II. The WASP were pioneers in the integration of women pilots into the military. In addition to Campbell, Nancy Baker and Virginia Wood, both of Fairbanks, also served as WASP. The service of these three women and all WASP veterans were recognized with the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest civilian award Congress can award to an individual. Ellen was able to travel to Washington, D.C. for the awarding of the medal and joined Sen. Murkowski to discuss her WASP service.
